Sankey Diagrams

Sankey diagrams are a visual representation of the 'flow' of data through a system or product. The width of the connections (grey bands) indicates the proportion of the 'flow' for that item. For example if we were looking at a model of a product or an assembly in the form of a BOM structure, the components with the largest masses would appear on the diagram with the widest bands. Or if the Sankey represented a supply chain, and we were interested in CO2 emissions, the processes with the highest emissions would have the widest bands,

This makes Sankeys an effective tool to very quickly identify the largest contributors across very large or highly complex models. In Makersite the Sankey diagrams are fully interactive, meaning any of the bars can be selected, with the option of reviewing more detailed information, or by using the 'Drill In' feature, be taken further into the model to find the root cause of the largest contributors.

For more information on Sankey diagrams, please see the Sankey Wiki page.

Graph View

The Graph view is a node-link graph visualization, where the nodes are Makersite datasets, such as components in a BOM. The nodes will follow the structure of the imported BOM the Makersite dataset is built from.

Each node has a cluster of sub-nodes around it, each linked sub-node represents the next level down in the Product or BOM structure.

In the Substance Risk Detection view, shown below, it is easy to see which components in the Product Group have regulations attached to them and by selecting any node in the view more information can be viewed in the Information and Tool Panel on the right.

Maps

The Map views are split into three different modes in Makersite, Heatmap, Choropleth, and Pinmap, which map views are available will depend on the Makersite app that is being used.

Heatmaps and Choropleths provide a visual indication of the concentration of data based on geographical location.

The Pinmap shows specific points on a map, represented by pin icons.

Heatmap

The Heatmap below is based on the supply chain geographical data from a Product Group in Makersite, the highest concentration of data will be shown as reds, the lowest in blues.

Choropleth

The Choropleth below is based on the same data as the Heatmap above, just visualized on the map in a different way. Instead of a gradient of colors, the Choropleth uses blocks of colors to indicate the concentration of data.

The key in the bottom left corner of the page shows the scale.

Pinmap

The Pinmap simply shows specific geographic locations.

Grid View

The Grid view is a pivot tool, using columns and rows. The structure follows the imported BOM, expanding a Product Group or Process in the table will show the next level down in the structure.

For more information on how to use the Grid view, please see the Pivot Functionality article on the Makersite FAQ pages.
