EPD Dashboard Purpose
EPD stands for Environmental Product Declaration. These declarations are maintained by the International EPD System, and comply with the ISO 14025 standard, aiming to transparently report objective, comparable and third-party verified data about products and services' environmental performances from a lifecycle perspective.
The International EPD System defined Product Category Rules (PCR), which essentially serve as a "cookbook" for making an EPD relevant to your product.
Makersite allows you to import or define PCRs for your products. When this is done, Makersite can calculate the product life cycle model, and present the data for you in accordance with the above-mentioned standards. This is the purpose of the EPD Dashboard.
Prerequisites
EPD Dashboard displays and interprets life cycle data related to your product. If no data is available, you will get an error when trying to use the dashboard.
Your Product Group must have a Product Category assigned. Product Category Rules must be established for that Product Category in Makersite.
Your Product Group must have a life cycle model calculated based on the PCRs of the assigned Product Category.
Using EPD Dashboard
Open your Product Group.
Optionally, verify under Compose that your Product Group has the correct Product Category.
To make sure you're using the most recent data, you can select Generate/Recalculate LC models from the side menu. If you do, wait for the confirmation e-mail before proceeding. You can find your LC models under My Drive > Life Cycle Models.
Go to the Analyze page.
Select the apps drop-down from the toolbar, and select EPD Dashboard.
As a result, you are taken to the EPD Dashboard, which shows the calculated impacts per EPD category. Since this is a lot of data, Makersite provides the following functionality to make it easier to interpret:
You can select Show Footnote to get an explanation for each category below the main table.
Above the pie charts, you can switch between different EPD data categories.
You can check the interpretation of your results generated by Makersite below the pie charts.
You can export your data using the Export to PDF button at the bottom of the page.
What's Next?
You can share the calculated data with third parties, for example LCA auditors.
