Configuring Mattermaps APIs

Written by Binod Paul

Mattermaps Premium & Enterprise Packages allow companies to use APIs to connect Mattermaps to external data sources, such as ERP and PLM systems.

What are some benefits of using our APIs?

Standardization: APIs provide a standardized way to securely access and retrieve data from external systems, allowing Mattermaps to incorporate and utilize Company's existing data. This way your company can scale the exchange of PCFs and focus on what's important.

Extensibility and Customization: By exposing certain functionalities or data through APIs, Mattermaps allow customers to integrate the SaaS application with their own internal systems or third-party tools, tailoring the solution to their specific needs.

Scalability and Flexibility: Using APIs to fetch data from external sources, rather than uploading all data within Mattermaps application, can improve scalability. For example, if companies already have an established calculator tool and are interested only in acquiring primary data via Mattermaps.

Improved User Experience: By integrating data from various sources through APIs, Mattermaps provides a more comprehensive and valuable user experience. Users can access and work with data from multiple systems within Mattermaps, without having to switch between different tools or platforms, or upload data manually via excel files.

Once you have Mattermaps Premium or Enterprise Package, you can start creating your first Technical User (TU). A technical user, in our context, is a non-human user account or identity that is used to facilitate the communication and data exchange between Mattermaps and your existing systems and databases. This technical user account has the necessary permissions, credentials, and access rights to interact with the APIs, resources, or services of both systems.

Creating your first TU is super easy.

  1. Navigate to Configure > API Management section
  2. Click on Create Technical User

Technical User Rights

To better manage your Technical Users in the future, add all specific information when creating them. This will help future users to know how the TU is being used in your Company.

  1. Add the TU name and description
  2. Select specific API scopes
  • If your company has a Mattermaps Premium subscription, then you will only have access to Basic APIs.
  • If you company has a Mattermaps Enterprise subscription, on top of Basic APIs you may also have a Remote & Shop floor APIs, depending on your contract.

Please keep in mind that you won't be able to edit API Scopes in the future. If you would like to change the configuration please create a new Technical User.

  1. Copy your Technical User information, Client ID and Client Secret and safely store it
  2. Update any applications connected to Mattermaps with the new credentials

As you may have notice your Technical User (TU) will expire after 365 days. This duration allows for regular review and renewal of technical user accounts, ensuring the ongoing security and integrity of the system.

But also, you will find that your technical user can be in different statuses:

Status Meaning Related Actions
Active Your TU is ready to use the connection with Mattermaps can be stablished You can now create your code and start sharing data between Mattermaps and your applications or databases
Suspended You, your team or Mattermaps System Admin has revoked the access for this TU. Usually a TU is set to be suspended if there is a suspected or confirmed data security breach

You can grant access to this TU from your API Management View at any time.

This action will prompt a new ClientID and ClientSecret that must be updated in any application using this TU

Expired This TU is older than 365 day

You can simple click the three dots, and select Renew.

Currently Mattermaps offers to sets of different APIs:

  1. Basic APIs available in our Mattermaps Premium & Enterprise Packages. These APIs enable companies to integrate and exchange data with third party systems and databases. These APIs are widely use to upload supplier and component data to Mattermaps and to update PCF data from suppliers into calculation tools.
  2. Common integrations for basic APIs: Enterprise resource planning (ERP), Product-Lifecycle-Management (PLM), Energy Management System (EMS) applications.
  3. Remote APIs available in our Mattermaps Enterprise Package. These sets of APIs enable companies to operate Mattermaps in the background, without requiring of the Mattermaps user interface (UI). Also called headless APIs, they enable Companies to operate Mattermaps by using other existing applications.
  4. Common integrations for basic APIs: ERP system where the integrator between the ERP system and Mattermaps may create an extra button on your ERP to directly request PCFs, without you ever login into Mattermaps.
  5. Shoopfloor APIs available in our Mattermaps Enterprise Package. These sets of APIs enable companies to automatically create own emissions in Mattermaps directly from your plant. You may already have this functionality with your EMS system or other tools, and we want to make sure you use the data you already have and start increasing your primary share.

Accessing Mattermaps APIs

Basic APIs are part of our Mattermaps Premium package, and can be purchased from our website, or by contacting one of our representatives, also possible in our website. Note, that only Company Admins of a Mattermaps account will be able to make the purchase.

Remote and Shop floor APIs can be purchased as part of our Mattermaps Enterprise package.

Once part of Mattermaps Premium or Enterprise, companies are able to connect to set up their own data flows between Mattermaps and other tools using our APIs, and connect to their shop floor own emissions data. After the subscription is upgraded, a new section called API Management, under Configure will be accessible and Company Admins will be able to create their own Technical Users. Mattermaps Technical User Management provides a robust framework for managing access to your APIs. Enjoy a seamless experience while maintaining security and control!
