This article explains how manufacturing locations work in Mattermaps, who owns them at each stage of the supplier lifecycle, and why only a supplier can correct the manufacturing location on a submitted product carbon footprint (PCF).

The Mattermaps data model

Understanding who can do what with manufacturing locations starts with understanding how the key objects relate to each other:

• Products are manufactured by your organisation (the logged-in account).
• Components are sourced from suppliers and can be included in a bill of materials (BOM) for a product.
• Suppliers are the external organisations that provide components. Each supplier has one or more manufacturing locations.

How manufacturing locations are assigned

Manufacturing location ownership changes depending on whether the supplier has accepted their invitation.

Before the supplier is invited

When you create a supplier record, you can enter a manufacturing location on their behalf. At this stage, your organisation controls that information and can edit it freely.

To edit a supplier's manufacturing location before they are invited:

Go to Procurement and open the Suppliers list.
Navigate to the supplier you want to update.
Select Edit and update the manufacturing location.

After the supplier accepts the invitation

Once a supplier activates their account, they own and maintain their manufacturing locations. They may also add additional locations if they manufacture in more than one place.

As a customer, you can still add manufacturing locations to an invited supplier's record, but you cannot modify or remove locations that the supplier controls. Adding a location on your side does not change where components submitted by that supplier are recorded as being manufactured.

How manufacturing locations appear on PCFs

When you request a product carbon footprint (PCF) from a supplier, you can optionally select a desired region. This is useful when you source the same component from the same supplier across multiple regions.

The supplier then submits the PCF and includes their manufacturing location as part of the submission. Once submitted:

• The manufacturing location becomes part of the PCF record.
• You cannot modify a PCF submitted by a supplier.
• You cannot modify a supplier's account details — only the supplier can do that.

What to do if a manufacturing location is incorrect

If the manufacturing location recorded on a component or PCF is wrong, only the supplier can correct it, because they own and maintain where their manufacturing happens.

Contact the supplier directly and ask them to:

1. Log in to their Mattermaps account.
2. Update their manufacturing location.
3. Resubmit the PCF if a correction to an already-submitted PCF is needed.
