PACT Configuration

What is PACT?

The Partnership for Carbon Transparency or PACT (previously Pathfinder) Network is a concept developed by PACT and powered by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). PACT is working toward the vision of an open and global network of interoperable solutions for the secure peer-to-peer exchange of accurate, primary and verified product emissions data – across all industries and value chains. The PACT network (previously Pathfinder Network) is of and for companies to securely exchange environmental data with each other, with an initial focus on PCF data.

Mattermaps aligns with the global standard for Scope 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions calculation and data exchange across the value chain, established by PACT.

Being PACT conformant signifies that Mattermaps adheres to the technical specifications set by PACT, enabling accurate, verified, and secure calculation and exchange of product-level emissions data. This capability is crucial for businesses that want to share carbon footprint data with partners, suppliers, and customers, ensuring transparency and alignment with climate commitments.

How to Request PACT Activation on Mattermaps?

Company admins can now request PACT activation directly via the tool, allowing Mattermaps to exchange Product Carbon Footprints (PCF) with PACT suppliers or customers.

Company admins can initiate PACT activation from the Configure settings in Network Connections.

The request form pops up, with company name and email prefilled.

  • Upon submission of a support request, the support team receives an email containing the necessary details.
  • Once the request is approved, users can access the PACT configuration settings.

Before proceeding with the configuration, users must contact the support team to request API access authorization.

How to Create PACT Credentials on your Mattermaps account?

A new feature in the "Configure" settings now allows users to efficiently create and manage PACT configurations. This feature provides a structured process for the creation, storage, and retrieval of credentials.

Once the PACT Activation is requested and approved. A dedicated PACT tab is now integrated within the Configure section for managing PACT-related credentials.

First-time users accessing the PACT tab are presented with an empty page, showing a "Create PACT Configuration" button.

To initiate the credential creation process, click the "Create PACT Configuration" button, which opens a form to enter the necessary details.

Carefully complete all required fields to ensure accuracy, then proceed to save and generate the credentials.

Upon form submission, the system generates the following:

  • Client ID (displayed)
  • Client Secret (masked by default)

A success confirmation message will be displayed, with a reminder that these credentials are shown only once for security reasons.

Once that is done, you can now view all the configurations created, you also have the possibility to view and edit.

Once clicking on View & Edit, you can download your Full credential details in a JSON format. You also have the possibility to delete the configuration, thus remove the access of your partner company, and any future API calls will fail for this partner.

How to Check Connection?

Sharing PCF via PACT

Once you established a connection with your partner. You are now able to share your PCFs via the PACT Network.

You can share a PCF via PACT network in Mattermaps for an Existing Request via Product Portfolio:

Product Portfolio> Go to the desired Product > Share PCF

Request a PCF via PACT Network

After successfully connecting with your partner, the next steps involve adding and configuring them as a supplier in Mattermaps.

  1. Add and invite your partner as you would any supplier in Mattermaps.
  2. Navigate to the Procurement tab, go to your desired supplier, then select "Edit Supplier."
  3. Enter the Configuration Name that was specified on the Configuration page, then save your changes.

This process ensures that your partner is properly integrated into your system.

After you save, you will be connected with you partner via PACT Network for requesting PCFs.

Just as you would request a PCF within Mattermaps. It is the same process. You first need to ensure you are connected with your partner successfully. Once the connection is established, you can then request a PCF from them via PACT.

Head to the component and supplier you want to request, click the request button. In the pop-up, choose "PACT" from the Network dropdown. If a connection is not established correctly, you will not see the PACT option, otherwise you can choose it. Then send.
